Why choose me?

I have been told I have a “Radio 4” voice and that I make stories “come alive”.  I’ve also learned I have a “twinkle in my eye” and that I have an “understated” sense of humour (that usually lurks in parentheses, like this one!)  I certainly have the performance credentials: I attended drama school and won medals for drama and poetry readings.  I studied English Literature at University and have an extensive mental archive of literary stuff, should it be required!  I have also written hundreds of thousands of words in my life, having kept a diary since the age of twelve!

My career in publishing involved stints in selling, publicity, marketing, and latterly, as joint Director in a successful bookselling business that enabled me to take early retirement at the age of …45. Since then I’ve volunteered at the Citizens’ Advice Bureau and as a Magistrate and lived long enough in France to acquire dual citizenship.  On my return to England I have joined two choirs and trained to be a Celebrant.

I am (happily!) married with two grown-up stepchildren.

What makes me a good Celebrant?

I have always loved ceremonies - and performance - and writing.

I have an abiding curiosity about people and what makes them do what they do.  I’m also a good and attentive listener.

So I believe I’m a good fit to be a Celebrant especially as I’ve had the privilege of being thoroughly trained and accredited by Humanists UK (and incidentally insured through them, and DBS checked).

As a humanist, I believe that everyone should have access to meaningful, non-religious, ceremonies to celebrate the big events in life and not let them flash past or drift past.
